Backcountry Camps & Cabins

Pre-book your stay at one of our 5 historic and strategically located camps. We’ve made it easy by having all of our backcountry camps fully stocked with sleeping bags, camp footwear, fleece jackets, and a camp host. Arrive at camp each day to a delicious, hearty, and healthy meal freshly prepared by our camp hosts and served in the comfort of a warm & outfitted cabin. Rest well in the cozy bed of one of our double occupancy canvas walled sleeping tents, and wake recharged and ready for the next day’s adventures!

Our five camps & cabins are Sky, Spruce, Bear Paw, Eldorado & Trigger. Eldorado cabin is the only cabin available in the winter.

It’s a great idea to spend a night or two in the area before/after joining us for a trip. Our base (and where you will start your trip) is located at Tyax Lodge.

Our Camps

Bear Paw Camp & Cabin

Our deepest wilderness camp set in historic mountain meadows beneath epic terrain

Bear Paw Camp is set deep in the heart of the mountains in a tranquil and historic location that has beckoned both people and animals for generations. Historically used as the idyllic hunting and exploration camp, Bear Paw has been re-stored to now be the core resting grounds for mountain bikers, and hikers who are looking to get deep into the wilderness and experience epic trails and terrain.

Eldorado Camp & Cabin

The highest of our camps nestled in sub-alpine terrain & built for summer and winter use

A charming cabin built to offer comfort and reprieve for both summer and winter recreationists, Eldorado Cabin rests at 6,300 ft and boasts a wood-fired sauna to help relax tired trail muscles. Nestled amongst some of the area’s tallest and most rugged peaks in combination with relatively easy access, Eldorado Cabin is the perfect place to call home for an extended backcountry winter adventure, or the quintessential one-night stay for hikers, and bikers looking for a quiet and remote mountain adventure.

Sky Camp & Cabin

The perfect deep wilderness retreat to un-plug, re-charge & re-connect.

Imagine stepping out of the wood-fired sauna, plunging into the cool clear lake, and then sitting on the patio sipping a drink as the sun falls behind towering peaks with glaciers hanging off their flanks. After a day of adventure – be it hiking, canoeing, SUP’ing, or fishing – enjoy some time in the wood-fired, lakeside sauna. At night, retire to your luxurious and private safari-style walled tent with lake-filled views. Delight in the spectacular quiet surroundings from your personal deck or snuggle into your hand-hewn log bed outfitted with a cozy duvet and plump pillows.

Spruce Camp & Cabin

A landmark location at the crossroads of many mountain routes

Conveniently located near the shores of Spruce Lake and at the crossroads of many mountain routes in the South Chilcotin, Spruce Camp is our most complete and visited backcountry accommodation. Outfitted with hot showers, solar power, running water, fishing boats, and a complete kitchen that can easily be stocked via float plane, Spruce Camp is a true place to rest, re-charge and enjoy some creature comforts before hitting the trail again.

Trigger Camp & Cabin

A true rustic and historic camp placed on the placid shores of Trigger Lake.

A true pioneers camp in spirit, Trigger Camp remains a gift to hikers, bikers, and horseback riders who need a comfortable place to call home after traveling over the many mountains passes that surround it. Innocently tucked along the shores of Trigger Lake, this camp is rustic, but nonetheless complete with service, warmth, and all the promised comfort. Trigger Camp offers the perfect spot to rest, re-fuel and recharge with more vigor to continue your exploration of the South Chilcotin.

FAQs

    • A camp host to set up and maintain camp.

    • A cozy bed in a dual occupancy canvas walled tent (2 people per tent typically)

    • Three meals a day when in the mountains. Includes a hot breakfast and dinner prepared by the host, and self prepared and packed lunches for on the trails. A packed lunch prepared by Tyax Adventures is also included on your first day.

    • Filtered water to fill your hydration packs and bottles.

    • Sleeping bags, sleeping pad/mattresses, and pillows.

    • Fleece jackets to help keep you warm in the evenings.

    • Crocs footwear to wear while in and around camp.

    • Outdoor hot showers with soap.

    • An outdoor pit toilet that is basic in nature but fully stocked

    • If ordered and paid for in advance – beer, wine and/or cider. Alcohol must be pre-ordered at least 30 days in advance and will be waiting for you at your desired camp location.

    • The opportunity to dry out wet clothes and/or shoes, with a wood fired stove (this means you can travel even lighter!)

    At Spruce Camp only, take advantage of our 3 fishing boats to head out onto the lake for some of the best fishing in the park. A fishing licence is mandatory.

    At Eldorado Cabin, take advantage of our wood fired sauna to help relax tired trail muscles.

  • Your host will prepare all of your meals, including delicious and healthy breakfasts, lunches and dinners. If you have any special dietary needs, please notify Tyax Adventures when you book your trip so that we can make the necessary allowances.

  • You are required to bring your own sleeping bag liner and pillow case, however the huts and camps will have sleeping shelters so no tents or cooking gear are required. The campsite is also equipped with bear-proof food containers.

  • There are outdoor showers at Spruce Lake Camp, Bear Paw Camp & Eldorado Cabin/Camp. We will have biodegradable soap available for use. There are outhouses at the Spruce Lake Camp, Bear Paw Camp and the Eldorado Cabin/Camp.
